Women's swimming and diving team defeated by Calvin, 173-106
The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving team was defeated by Calvin College, 173-106, this evening in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
The Olivet College women's swimming and diving team was defeated by Calvin College, 173-106, this evening in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
Freshman Jackie Taylor (Plainwell) was a double winner for the Comets, winning both backstroke events. She won the 100 in 1:04.13 and the 200 in 2:19.99. Olivet finished in three additional individual events and one relay.
Sophomore Amy Johnson (Gaylord) took first-place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of :54.95. Junior Courtney Mich (Bay City/Western) had 171.82 points in the three-meter diving competition to finish in first-place. The last individual winner was freshman Bryenna Richards (Jenison) in the 200-yard individual medley (2:24.76).
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Johnson, senior Laura Herzog (St. Joseph), sophomore Kalee Redder (Grandville/Jenison) and senior Carrie Schroeder (Marshall) was first in 1:44.05.
Olivet also had three second-place finishes – senior Christina Coxon (Mason), 200-yard individual medley (2:36.29), Herzog, 1,000-yard freestyle (11:25.41); and Redder, 500-yard freestyle (5:37.71).
The Comets are idle until next Saturday, Nov. 11, when they participate in a double dual meet at Hillsdale College. Along with the host Chargers, Ohio Northern University will also be participating.
