Leadership changes in The University of Olivet women’s soccer program announced
OLIVET, Mich. – Athletic Director Haley Diringer has announced changes in the leadership of The University of Olivet (UOlivet) women's soccer program. Doug Carter has stepped down from his role as head coach, and Justin Loveless has been promoted to head coach. Carter will continue serving as the head coach for the UOlivet men's soccer program.
"Firstly, I want to thank Doug for his seven years as the head women's soccer coach," said Diringer. "He did a great job at leading the student-athletes in the women's program and felt it was the right time to step down and focus on only the men's program. Secondly, I am looking forward to the future of our women's team with Justin as the head coach. He is a young coach, who has a bright future ahead of him and wants to see the women's team be successful."
In 2024, Loveless completed his second season as the full-time assistant coach for the UOlivet men's and women's programs, serving as an assistant coach for the women's team and head coach for the men's reserve team. His coaching experience also includes coaching soccer club teams in the Lansing area since 2009 the boys' soccer coach at Holt High School from 2015-16. A 2004 graduate of Mason High School, Loveless was a member of the Comet men's soccer team in 2005 and played in 16 games.
"I want to thank Haley for giving me this opportunity to be a head college soccer coach," said Loveless. "I also want to say thanks to Doug for opening the door for me to learn the college game. He created this opportunity for me to step into this role and create a change for the program. Lastly, I want to thank Ross (Anderson) and Josh (Rosendale) for their guidance in my first two years back on a college field."
Carter came to Olivet in 2018 and served as the only women's soccer coach for his first two seasons. In 2020, he expanded his duties to also include being the head men's soccer coach.
"I enjoyed my time being the head coach for the men's and women's teams," said Carter. "Right now, I feel it is now the right time to devote just coaching the men. I look forward to seeing what Justin can do as the head coach for the women's program."
