Women’s soccer team loses heartbreaker to Calvin, 1-0, in season-opener

- The Comets had their best chance to score a goal in the 25th minute when freshman Katie Brown's shot was saved by the keeper.
- The score stayed 0-0 at halftime despite the Knights having a 7-1 advantage in total shots.
- Calvin broke through and scored its goal with just 27 seconds left in the game. The ball was served into the box on a corner kick. Sophie Mueller headed the ball across the box to the feet of Karley Babcock who finished with a shot into the center of the net.
- Olivet finished the game with just two shots. Brown's shot-on-goal in the first half, and the other by sophomore Mary Mitchell in the second half.
- Junior Mekenzie Lamb played all 90 minutes in goal and made 10 saves.
- The Knights recorded 19 shots, including 11 on-goal.
- Elizabeth Williams tallied a team-best five.
- Mueller finished with three shots.
- Three players each recorded two shots-on-goal.
- Amy Kliewer was the winning keeper.
- "I am immensely proud of our players with their performance in today's game," said Olivet head coach Doug Carter. "It's unfortunate we conceded a late goal but I am happy with how everyone played. Our discipline on defense was great. We just need to work at finding at ways get shots on goal when we are in the attacking third of the field.
- "I also want to thank all of the administration and everyone who has worked extremely hard for us to finally be able to play a game. There are so many people who worked behind the scenes for us to get to this point, and they should be commended for their great work."
- Olivet makes the drive down I-69 to play Trine (Ind.) University next Tuesday, March 23, at 4 p.m.
