Women’s soccer beats Calvin, 2-1, to secure No. 2 seed
The Olivet College women’s soccer team defeated Calvin College, 2-1, in its final regular season game today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. With the win, the Comets have secured the No. 2 seed in the 2017 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's soccer team defeated Calvin College, 2-1, in its final regular season game today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. With the win, the Comets have secured the No. 2 seed in the 2017 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets took a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute. Senior Isabelle Leon slipped the ball to the feet of sophomore Maya Prewitt at the top of the 6-yard box. Prewitt's shot went into the goal at the near post.
- The Knights leveled the score at 1-1 with just 47 seconds left before halftime. The goal came off a set piece.
- Olivet grabbed the lead back in the 14th minute of the second half. Junior Emma Essen scored the goal after getting a pass from Prewitt.
- The Comets had a couple chances to stretch their lead, while Calvin had two opportunities to score an equalizing goal.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet registered nine total shots, including six on-goal, in the game.
- Essen, Leon, Prewitt and senior Rachael Durocher each recorded two shots.
- Freshman Samantha Gifford collected seven saves, while playing all 90 minutes in goal.
FOR THE KNIGHTS
- Bekah Maguire scored the goal.
- Abby Koops and Carrie Rietberg had three shots apiece, as Calvin finished the game with 17 total shots.
- Amy Kliewer suffered the loss in net. She had four saves.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- With her assist, Leon has tied the Olivet career record with 26 helpers.
- Leon is also tied for second on the single-season ledger with 11 assists.
UP NEXT
- Olivet hosts No. 3 seed Adrian Thursday in the MIAA Tournament semifinals. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. The highest remaining seed after Thursday's semifinal games will host the championship game Saturday at a to be determined time. Hope College is hosting Calvin in the other semifinal.
