Women’s soccer team falls to Alma, 4-3, in double overtime
The Olivet College women’s soccer team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Alma College in heartbreaking fashion, 4-3, in double overtime this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's soccer team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Alma College in heartbreaking fashion, 4-3, in double overtime this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Scots took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Megan Kalaniak in the 21st minute.
- Olivet leveled the score at 1-1 when junior Isabelle Leon netted her team-leading 13th goal of the season. Freshman Ashley Romanowski provided the helper on the goal.
- Alma took a 2-1 halftime lead when Kalaniak scored her second goal of the game in the 34th minute.
- Romanowski scored a pair of goals in a 56-second span to start the second half and put the Comets ahead 3-2.
- The Scots tied the game at 3-3 on Jessica Burg's goal in the 60th minute.
- Leon had a chance to score the game-winning goal in the 84th minute but her shot went just wide right of the net.
- Olivet had its best opportunity to net the game-winner in the second overtime stanza. Junior Emily Reinecke got her head on ball placed into the ball off a free kick by freshman Abby Radcliffe. The shot went left of the net.
- Alma scored the winning goal with 1:44 left in the second overtime period.
FOR THE COMETS
- The game was played nearly even as the score showed, as Olivet had 23 total shots compared to 26 for the Scots.
- Romanowski had five points (two goals and one assist) to go along with seven shots.
- Leon also took seven shots.
- Freshman Brooklyn Burel made 10 saves in net.
FOR THE SCOTS
- Kalaniak had two goals as well as a team-best nine shots.
- Kelsey Postema collected eight saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal.
