Women’s soccer team defeats Kalamazoo, 2-0
The women’s soccer team improved to 7-0 on its home field this season with a 2-0 shutout victory over Kalamazoo today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. Olivet is now tied with Albion, Alma, Calvin and Kalamazoo for first-place in the league standings, as each school has seven points.
OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College women's soccer team improved to 7-0 on its home field this season with a 2-0 shutout victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Kalamazoo College today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. With the win, Olivet is now tied with Albion, Alma, Calvin and Kalamazoo for first-place in the league standings, as each school has seven points.
In the 25th minute, junior Lizzy Julian (Mattawan) scored an unassisted goal and her team-leading 12th of the season for the Comets. Olivet added an insurance goal at the 68:04 mark when freshman Lindsey Winters (Plymouth/Canton) found the back of the net. After missing the last seven games due to injury, freshman Katie Clayton (Kingsley/Traverse City Central) along with sophomore Alison Lyon (Charlotte) each earned an assist.
The Comets finished the game with 12 shots. Winters led the way with five shots. Julian and senior Katie Koralewski (Sterling Heights /Stevenson) had two shots apiece. In goal, senior Alyssa Budros (Traverse City/Central) faced 13 shots and made eight saves.
Olivet will end its three-game home-stand next Wednesday, Oct. 13, when it hosts Albion College at 4 p.m.
