Women’s soccer blanked by Calvin, 4-0, in regular season finale

OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College women's soccer team was shutout by Calvin College 4-0 this afternoon in its regular season finale at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. With the loss, the Comets are the No. 4 seed in the 2010 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament and will host No. 5 seed Adrian College in a first round game Saturday at noon. The winner then advances to play at top seed Alma College in the semifinals Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m.
The Knights got on the scoreboard in the 17th minute and added to their lead with two goals in a span of just under 3-1/2 minutes. The first was an unassisted tally at the 36:27 mark, and the second was a header off a set piece at the 39:56 mark. The score stayed 3-0 at halftime. Calvin closed the scoring with another header goal off a set piece in the 61st minute.
Olivet finished the game with just four shots, including two for senior Justine Zachos (Charlotte/Fowlerville). Senior Alyssa Budros (Traverse City/Central) collected six saves, while facing 19 shots in goal.
The Comets finish the regular season portion of its schedule with a 13-4-2 overall record, including a 4-3-1 mark in MIAA play. The 13 wins are the third most in a single season in school. In addition, today's loss also snapped Olivet's eight-game home winning streak this season.
