Women's soccer team defeats Tri-State (Ind.), 3-1
The Olivet College women's soccer team defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Tri-State (Ind.) University, 3-1, this afternoon in Olivet. The Lady Comets (6-9, 4-7 MIAA) jumped out to a 2-0 lead and never looked back. The victory snaps a five-game losing streak for Olivet.

Freshman Shannah Fisher (Delton Kellogg High School) scored the first goal for the Comets in the fourth minute of the game. Freshman Natalie Lopez (Holland/West Ottawa High School) assisted on the goal. Sophomore Stacey Stickney (St. Joseph High School) stretched the Olivet lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal at the 12:18 mark.
The Thunder (2-10-1, 0-10-1 MIAA) cut their deficit to 2-1 when Stephanie Vogelpohl scored with 12:39 left before halftime. The score remained 2-1 after the first 45 minutes of play.
Stickney put the ball into the back of the goal off a cross pass from the left side of the goal by sophomore Heather Wolf (Marshall High School) with just under nine minutes remaining in the contest.
For the game, the Comets outshot Tri-State, 20-12; however, both teams had nine shots on goal. Stickney was credited with 10 shots, five on goal. Lopez and Wolf had three apiece. Junior goalkeeper Gretchen Ford (Harbor Springs High School) played the entire game and made eight saves.
Olivet will travel to play Saint Mary's (Ind.) College this Saturday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. ET.
