Wrestling team has 3-1 record at NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals
The Olivet College wrestling team posted a 3-1 record today at day one of the 2020 National Wrestling Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Multi-Divisional National Duals, held at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. After beating Roger Williams (R.I.) University, 27-16, the Comets fell to No. 1-ranked Augsburg (Minn.) University, 43-3. Olivet bounced back to beat University of Wis.-Oshkosh, 23-13 and Luther (Iowa) College, 26-18.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Olivet College wrestling team posted a 3-1 record today at day one of the 2020 National Wrestling Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Multi-Divisional National Duals, held at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. After beating Roger Williams (R.I.) University, 27-16, the Comets fell to No. 1-ranked Augsburg (Minn.) University, 43-3. Olivet bounced back to beat University of Wis.-Oshkosh, 23-13 and Luther (Iowa) College, 26-18.
- The Comets won six bouts against the Hawks. Three of the wins were pins.
- Junior Cameron Mahlich started the match with a pin with just 27 seconds left in the third period of the 125-pound bout.
- Sophomore Reese Wallis made the score 9-0 with a 7-3 decision at 133 pounds.
- Roger Williams tied the score with a pin at 141 pounds and 8-3 decision at 149 pounds.
- Junior Cole Hersch edged his opponent, 3-2, at 157 pounds.
- Freshman Owen Guilford tallied a 56-second pin at 165 pounds to make the score 18-9.
- The Hawks won two straight bouts, 7-2 at 174 pounds and 12-0 at 184 pounds, to close their deficit to 18-16.
- Olivet ended the match with two straight wins. Junior Trevor Piggott posted a 7-4 decision at 197 pounds and sophomore Owen Miller pinned his man in the first period at 285 pounds.
- The Auggies won nine bouts.
- Olivet's lone win came at 285 pounds where sophomore Dominick Wilson won 4-0.
- The Comets claimed wins in six bouts, scoring bonus points in two.
- The Titans won the first bout 7-3 before Wallis leveled the score at 3-3 with a 6-3 decision at 133 pounds.
- Wis.-Oshkosh won a 16-3 major decision at 141 pounds to go up 7-3.
- The Comets answered with five straight wins.
- Sophomore Hunter Murphy got the streak started with a 6-2 decision at 149 pounds.
- Hersch posted an 18-1 technical fall at 157 pounds.
- Guilford won 10-3 at 165 pounds.
- Senior Haydn Kinjorski earned a 6-1 decision at 174 pounds.
- Senior Kamyab Kamali capped the streak with a first-period pin in the 184-pound bout.
- The Titans won the last two bouts – 1-0 at 197 pounds and 4-0 at 285 pounds.
- Olivet earned wins in six bouts, with half being bonus point wins.
- Mahlich tallied a pin at the 3:48 in the 125-pound bout.
- After the Comets lost 5-2 at 133 pounds, junior Andrew Castaneda slipped past his opponent, 2-0.
- Freshman Zach Wells extended the Comets' lead to 12-3 with a 7-4 decision at 149 pounds.
- Hersch had his second straight technical fall, winning 18-0 at 157 pounds.
- Junior Adam Hall won 4-2 at 165 pounds.
- Kinjorski had the fastest pin of the day at 48 seconds in the 174-pound bout.
- The Norse won the last three bouts, including pins at 184 and 197 pounds.
- The Comets face Coe (Iowa) College tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. The winner is guaranteed a top-eight finish at the national duals.
