Wrestling team posts 3-1 record at Comet Duals
The Olivet College wrestling team hosted the 2019 Comet Duals inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet, and the Comets finished with a 3-1 record. Olivet defeated Mount St. Joseph (Ohio), 27-16; Ohio Northern University, 28-13; and Heidelberg (Ohio) University, 31-14, but fell to Millikin (Ill.) University, 32-7.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College wrestling team hosted the 2019 Comet Duals inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet, and the Comets finished with a 3-1 record. Olivet defeated Mount St. Joseph (Ohio), 27-16; Ohio Northern University, 28-13; and Heidelberg (Ohio) University, 31-14, but fell to Millikin (Ill.) University, 32-7.
- The Comets won 6-of-10 bouts, scoring bonus points in four wins.
- After Olivet lost the 125, 133 and 141-pound matches and fell behind by a 10-0 score, senior 149-pounder Drew Mandell pinned his opponent in the first period (2:38).
- Junior Cole Hersch won a 17-2 technical fall at 157 pounds to put the Comets ahead 11-10.
- Junior Dylan Briggs stretched Olivet's lead to, 15-10, with a 12-4 major decision at 165 pounds.
- Junior Adam Hall and senior Kamyab Kamali followed with 5-3 and 4-1 decisions to make the score 21-10.
- The Lions got a fall in the 197-pound match to close the gap to 21-16.
- Sophomore 285-pounder Owen Miller put an exclamation point on the Comets' victory by pinning his opponent in one minute and 40 seconds.
- Millikin rolled to the 32-7 win by winning 8-of-10 bouts.
- Olivet's team points were a 6-1 decision by sophomore Reese Wallis at 141 pounds and 17-7 major decision by Hersch at 157 pounds.
- The Comets won 7-of-10 bouts, with three bonus point wins.
- Junior Cameron Mahlich started the match with a 12-6 victory at 125 pounds.
- The Polar Bears went ahead 7-3 with an 11-3 major decision at 133 pounds and 3-1 decision at 141 pounds.
- Mandell was winning his 149-pound bout when his opponent was injured and defaulted the win.
- Sophomore 157-pounder Liam Kinjorski added six more points to Olivet's team total by pinning his opponent in 47 seconds.
- Briggs posted a 12-2 major decision at 165 pounds to increase the Comets' lead to 19-7.
- Senior Nicholas Worden won 9-3 at 174 pounds and sophomore Hiram Robinson won 9-6 at 184 pounds to seal Olivet's win.
- Ohio Northern got a pin at 197 pounds to make the score 25-13.
- Sophomore Dominick Wilson capped the Comets' win with a 5-0 shutout at 285 pounds.
- Olivet claimed wins in 7-of-10 bouts, earning bonus points in five.
- Senior Garret Cleveland won 4-2 at 125 pounds.
- The Student Princes won the next two bouts to go ahead 8-3.
- Mandell leveled the score at 8-8 with a 21-6 technical fall at 149 pounds.
- Hersch gave the lead to the Comets, 14-8, with a second-period pin (4:09) at 157 pounds.
- Briggs and Hall both won major decisions, 12-4 and 12-3, respectively.
- A Heidelberg pin at 184 pounds made the score 21-14.
- Senior Jalen McFerrin-Pace posted an 8-2 decision to lock up Olivet's win.
- Miller ended the day with a fall in the first period (1:30) at 285 pounds.
- Olivet's second-team wrestled three junior colleges and one club program, and finished the day with a perfect 4-0 record. The Comets beat Muskegon Community College, 35-15; Henry Ford College, 42-14; St. Clair County Community College, 32-21; and Grand Valley State University club team, 32-15. Senior Andre Bourlier had a 3-0 record at 141 pounds.
- The Comets are idle until Saturday, Dec. 7, when they participate in the 56th Annual North Central (Ill.) College Invitational.
