Wrestling team sits 11th after day one at Pete Willson Invitational
The Olivet College wrestling team is in 11th-place after the first day of the 2019 Wheaton (Ill.) College/Pete Willson Invitational at King Arena in Wheaton, Illinois.

WHEATON, Ill. – The Olivet College wrestling team is in 11th-place after the first day of the 2019 Wheaton (Ill.) College/Pete Willson Invitational at King Arena in Wheaton, Illinois.
- Thirty-eight NCAA Division III schools make up the tournament field.
- University of Mount Union (Ohio) is on top of the leader board with 73.0 points. Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University is second with 69.0 points, followed by University of Wis.-Platteville in third with 53 points, and University of Wis.-La Crosse and University of Wis.-Oshkosh tied for fourth-place with 53.5 points each.
- The Comets have 43.5 points. Seven wrestlers are still alive in the brackets and will wrestle tomorrow.
- At 149 pounds, junior Drew Mandell had three pins and will wrestle in the semifinals against Noah Nieman from Adrian College.
- The remaining six Olivet wrestlers have each lost a match and will continue to wrestle tomorrow in the consolation bracket.
- Junior Cole Hersch at 157 pounds and senior Tyler Grimsley at 165 pounds both lost close matches in the first round, and rebounded to win four straight matches.
- 125: Garret Cleveland – 3-1 record … lost 20-3 technical fall to Carlos Fuentes (Wheaton), won 4-3 over Josh McLaughlin (Elizabethtown), won 12-5 over Ellex Williams (MacMurray), won 3-1 over Elijah Davis (Millikin).
- 133: Reese Wallis – 2-2 record … won 8-2 over Dominic Pecoraro (Trine), lost 10-2 to Jordin James (Mount Union), won 9-0 over Jimmy Murphy (Thomas More), lost 2-1 to Alec Hoover (Case Western).
- 141: Andrew Castaneda – 0-2 record … lost 5-0 to Mario Vasquez (Ferrum), lost 2-0 to Robert Nowik (Adrian).
- 149: Drew Mandell – 3-0 record … pinned Alexander Strueder (Wis.-Platteville) in 1:00, pinned Mike Davis (Pacific) in 0:20, pinned Stephen Maloney (Messiah) in 6:38.
