Grimsley’s 4-0 record leads wrestling team to four wins at Comet Duals
Senior Tyler Grimsley posted a 4-0 record at 165 pounds to lead the Olivet College wrestling team to four wins today at the 2018 Comet Duals inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The Comets, ranked No. 18 in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association Top 25 poll, defeated Mount St. Joseph (Ohio), 31-12; Cornell (Iowa), 33-3; Manchester (Ind.), 38-10; and No. 15 Millikin (Ill.), 23-15.

OLIVET, Mich. – Senior Tyler Grimsley posted a 4-0 record at 165 pounds to lead the Olivet College wrestling team to four wins today at the 2018 Comet Duals inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The Comets, ranked No. 18 in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association Top 25 poll, defeated Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) University, 31-12; Cornell (Iowa) College, 33-3; Manchester (Ind.) University, 38-10; and No. 15 Millikin (Ill.) University, 23-15.
- The Comets won seven-of-10 bouts and scored bonus points in five wins.
- The Lions won by decision and fall at 125 and 133 pounds.
- Sophomore Andrew Castaneda used the riding time point at the end of the 141-pound bout to win 6-5.
- Freshman Hunter Murphy leveled the team score at 9-9 with a first-period pin (2:26) at 149 pounds.
- Junior Cole Hersch put Olivet on top, 15-9, with another first-period pin (2:00) at 157 pounds.
- Grimsley won a 21-6 technical fall at 165 pounds to extend the Comets' lead to 20-9.
- Junior Haydn Kinjorski and freshman Hiram Robinson won back-to-back major decisions, 19-6 and 11-1, at 174 and 184 pounds, respectively.
- Mount St. Joseph claimed a decision victory at 197 pounds.
- Sophomore Trevor Piggott capped Olivet's win by scoring a takedown in overtime for a 3-1 decision at 285 pounds.
- The Comets earned wins in nine bouts, with three bonus point victories.
- Junior Garret Cleveland got the match started with a 12-2 major decision at 125 pounds.
- Freshman Reece Wallis posted a 5-1 decision at 133 pounds.
- Junior Andre Boulier won 6-4 at 141 pounds. The difference in the bout was a reversal and two-point near-fall and the start of the third period.
- Junior Drew Mandell overwhelmed his opponent with an 18-1 technical fall at 149 pounds.
- Hersch earned a 10-5 decision at 157 pounds.
- In a battle of nationally-ranked wrestlers at 165 pounds, Grimsley scored a takedown as the third-period buzzer sounded to beat the No. 4 ranked wrestler, 3-1.
- Kinjorski rallied in the final period to win 8-5 at 174 pounds.
- The Rams won their only bout at 184 pounds.
- Freshman Austin Engle jumped out to an 8-3 lead after the first period to notch a 16-10 decision at 197 pounds.
- Freshman Owen Miller ended the match with a first-period pin (1:47) at 285 pounds.
- Olivet had bonus-point wins in five of its eight victories.
- The riding time point was the difference in the 125-pound bout, as Cleveland won 5-4.
- Wallis claimed a 7-5 decision at 133 pounds.
- The Spartans earned a 13-5 major decision at 141 pounds.
- Murphy picked-up an injury default win at 149 pounds.
- Manchester got six team points back with a pin at 157 pounds.
- Grimsley won 21-5 at 165 pounds.
- Kinjorski used a big throw in the middle of the second period to pin his opponent at 174 pounds.
- Junior Clayton Higelmire shutout his opponent, 6-0, at 184 pounds.
- Senior Jacob Harvey had the quickest pin of the day, 40 seconds, at 197 pounds.
- Piggott claimed a forfeit win at 285 pounds.
- Both teams won five bouts. The Comets earned bonus points in four of their victories to earn the win.
- Sophomore Cameron Mahlich tallied a 12-1 major decision at 125 pounds.
- The Big Blue had a 6-4 decision at 133 pounds.
- An escape point at the start of the third period was all that Bourlier needed in a 1-0 decision at 141 pounds.
- Mandell pinned his opponent with just 24 seconds left in the third period of the 149-pound bout.
- Millikin recorded an 8-2 decision at 157 pounds.
- Grimsley posted his third technical fall win of the day at 165 pounds. This one was by a 21-5 score.
- Following a Big Blue win at 174 pounds, Robinson pinned his opponent in the third period (5:41) of the 184-pound bout.
- Millikin won the last two bouts by decision.
- The Comets are off until Saturday, Dec. 8, when they compete at the North Central (Ill.) College Invitational.
