Wrestling team posts 4-0 record at Comet Duals
Seniors Ryan Clark and John Leark, and junior Tyler Grimsley all had 4-0 records to lead the Olivet College wrestling team to a perfect 4-0 record today at the 2017 Comet Duals inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The Comets beat Mount St. Joseph, 47-3; Millikin, 19-15; Henry Ford, 39-4; and Univ. of the Ozarks (Ark.), 35-9.

OLIVET, Mich. – Seniors Ryan Clark and John Leark, and junior Tyler Grimsley all had 4-0 records to lead the Olivet College wrestling team to a perfect 4-0 record today at the 2017 Comet Duals inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The Comets beat Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) University, 47-3; Millikin (Ill.) University, 19-15; Henry Ford College, 39-4; and University of the Ozarks (Ark.), 35-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. MOUNT ST. JOSEPH
- The Comets won nine of 10 matches, scoring bonus points in seven of the victories.
- Grimsley, Leark, senior Jared Brickley and sophomore Haydn Kinjorski earned forfeit wins.
- Sophomore Cole Hersch and freshman Jacob Kidd posted first-period pins at 56 and 53 seconds, respectivey.
- Clark won a 19-4 technical fall.
- Freshmen Ethan May and Trevor Piggott claimed minor decisions, 8-6 and 9-5, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. MILLIKIN
- Olivet went ahead 6-0 after 3-1 decision by Brickley at 125 pounds and 10-4 decision by freshman Kaleb Marion at 133 pounds.
- The Big Blue won the 141-pound match but Hersch answered with a 14-12 sudden victory at 149 pounds.
- Leark shut-out his opponent, 9-0, at 157 pounds to make the score 13-3.
- Grimsley stretched the lead to 16-3 with a 6-3 decision at 165 pounds.
- Millikin won three of the final four matches. The Comets' win in the stretch was a 13-8 decision for Clark at 184 pounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. HENRY FORD
- Olivet had wins in 9-of-10 matches, with seven bonus-point victories.
- The teams traded major decisions to start the match. Brickley won 16-3 while the Hawks won 17-3.
- The Comets won the final nine matches.
- Bonus point wins were by sophomore Andre Boulier (forfeit) at 141 pounds, Leark (18-2 technical fall) at 157 pounds, Grimsley (pin, 5:26) at 165 pounds, Kinjorski (16-5 major decision) at 174 pounds, Clark (22-8 major decision) at 184 pounds and sophomore Jalen McFerrin-Pace (13-3 major decision) at 285 pounds.
- The decision victories were by senior Dean Roberts (5-4) at 149 pounds and Kidd (4-2) at 197 pounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. OZARKS
- The Eagles took an early 6-0 lead after getting a pin in the 125-pound match.
- Marion overwhelmed his opponent with a 16-0 technical fall victory at 133 pounds.
- Ozarks scored a 12-5 decision at 141 pounds to stretch its lead to 9-5.
- The Comets ended the match with seven straight wins.
- Hersch used the riding time point to win 5-4 at 149 pounds.
- Leark posted a 16-0 tech fall at 157 pounds.
- Grimsley earned a 12-4 major decision at 165 pounds.
- Kinjorski pinned his opponent in 1:50 at 174 pounds.
- Clark picked-up a forfeit win at 184 pounds.
- Kidd and Piggott edged their wrestler, 4-2 and 5-3, at 197 and 285 pounds, respectively.
