FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College senior Nicole Deweyert has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week for women's golf.
Deweyert earned medalist honors at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association jamborees last week. On October 2, she shot a MIAA course record 72 at the Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Indiana. The 72 was also a personal-best for Deweyert and ranks in a tie for the third-best 18-hole score in history. The next day on October 3, she shared medalist honors with two other golfers with an 80 at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. The performances helped Deweyert close the gap in the race for MIAA Most Valuable Golfer honors. She is three strokes behind the leader, Hunter Kehoe from Saint Mary's (Ind.) College.
The Comets compete in the final two rounds of their MIAA schedule Friday and Saturday at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. As a team, Olivet is in second-place in the league standings and is two strokes ahead of third-place Hope College.
