NORMAL, Ill. – Sophomore Ashley Folleth and freshman Crystal Lettinga helped the Olivet College women's golf team take eighth-place at the Illinois Wesleyan University Fall Classic, played at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Comets posted a 642 two-round score, with a 318 in Saturday's first round and a 324 in today's second round.
  • Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.) claimed first-place with a 610 (305-305). The host Titans took second-place with a 612 (321-291), followed by DePauw (Ind.) University at 618 (306-312), Grinnell (Iowa) College, 623 (314-309); University of Wis.-Oshkosh, 626 (304-322); University of Wis.-Whitewater, 633 (305-328); and Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology, 638 (318-320).
  • Vidushi Sinha from Grinnell finished the tournament with a three-under par 141 total to earn medalist honors.

FOR THE COMETS

  • Folleth and Lettinga both finished with two-round scores of 158 strokes. Folleth carded back-to-back 79s, while Lettinga shot a 78 in the first round and 80 in the second round.
  • Sophomore Nicole Deweyert was two strokes behind with a 160 (77-83).
  • Junior Hayley Cooper improved her total by two strokes today with an 82 to give her a two-day total of 166 strokes.
  • Sophomore Taylor Elley shaved three strokes off her first-round total with an 86 in the second round to post a two-round total of 175.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • In today's round, Folleth recorded 11 pars and seven bogeys. Yesterday, she had five birdies.
  • Lettinga's 78 in the first round was a career-best. Over the 36 holes, she only shot worse than bogey on two holes.
  • For the tournament, Olivet was third in par 5 scoring at +9 and tied for third in par 4 scoring at +24.
  • The Comets' 642 team score is tied for seventh all-time in school history for a 36-hole score. It is the best 36-hole score in school history at the IWU Fall Classic.

  • The Comets begin their quest for a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship on Thursday when they host the first jamboree at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall.
