Women’s Basketball: Olivet loses 79-43 at Calvin in final regular season contest

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's basketball team dropped a 79-43 decision to Calvin University in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) regular season contest today at Van Noord Arena.

- Records: Olivet 9-16 overall, 6-10 MIAA; Calvin 18-7 overall, 12-4 MIAA
- The Comets led 5-4 at the 4:55 mark of the opening quarter. The Knights ended the quarter on a 13-3 run to take a 17-8 lead at the beginning of the second period. Calvin scored the first seven points of the second quarter to stretch its lead to 24-8. The teams were close to even for the rest of the quarter, as the Knights led 35-18 at halftime. Calvin outscored the Comets, 26-9, in the third quarter and 18-16 in the fourth quarter for the 79-43 score.
- Freshman Christina Malackanich nearly posted a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
- Junior Clara Shoales was next with nine points.
- Senior Lily Connelly scored six points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out six assists.
- Olivet will travel to play Trine (Ind.) University in a first-round game of the 2024 MIAA Tournament next Wednesday, February 21. Tip-off at the MTI Center will be 7 p.m.
