Women’s basketball team defeats Kalamazoo, 60-41, in MIAA-opener
The Olivet College women’s basketball team started Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with a 60-41 win over Kalamazoo College this afternoon at the Anderson Athletic Center in Kalamazoo.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team started Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with a 60-41 win over Kalamazoo College this afternoon at the Anderson Athletic Center in Kalamazoo.

- The Hornets built a five-point lead, 10-5, at the 4:47 mark of the opening quarter. The Comets answered with a 9-1 run to gain their largest lead of the game, 14-11. During the run, freshman Zara Weber made two three-pointers. Kalamazoo scored the final point of the quarter.
- The teams traded baskets from behind the arc to start the second quarter. The Hornets made a basket to tie the game at 17-17. Over the final 7:13 of the second period, Olivet outscored Kalamazoo 14-3 to take a 31-20 lead at halftime.
- The Comets kept the offensive onslaught in the third quarter, stretching their lead to as many as 22 points, 49-27, with 1:48 left in the period. A Hornet free throw made the score, 49-28, to start the fourth quarter.
- Kalamazoo netted the first seven points of the final quarter to cut its deficit down to 14 points. Olivet answered with eight straight points to regain a 22-point cushion, 57-35. The Hornets scored six of the final nine points of the game for their 19-point margin of defeat.
- The difference in the game was Olivet shot a higher field goal percentage, 34.5 percent to 29.3 percent, and turned the ball over 15 less times, 10 to 25.
- Weber made her first six shots, including five from behind the three-point arc, to score a game-high 18 points.
- Senior Tammy Lee finished with 11 points, five assists and four steals, while committing only one turnover.
- Junior DeeDee Post nearly had a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds.
- Senior Amari Brown topped the team with nine rebounds.
- Isabelle Clark was the lone player to score in double figures, as she had 16 points.
- Kylah Davis chipped-in eight points off the bench.
- Mya Gough grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds.
- The Comets travel to play Heidelberg (Ohio) University for a non-conference contest next Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m.
