Women’s basketball team stung by Kalamazoo, 68-62

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team came up just short to Kalamazoo College, 68-62, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest tonight at the Anderson Athletic Center in Kalamazoo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets led for the entire first quarter. The five-point margin at the end of the period, 19-14, equaled Olivet's largest lead of the game, set two other times at 9-4 and 11-6.
- In the second quarter, the Comets maintained their lead until the Hornets took their first lead, 22-21, at the 7:06 mark. Olivet then tied the game twice. After the last time at 26-26, Kalamazoo scored five straight points to gain its largest cushion in the game. The Comets scored four of the final six points to trail by only three points, 33-30, at the intermission.
- In the third quarter, the Hornets extended their lead to as many as eight points, 44-36, at the midpoint. Olivet answered with a 9-2 run to cut its deficit down to a single point, 46-45, with 1:53 left in the third period. Kalamazoo put the final four of the final points on the scoreboard to push its lead back to five points, 51-46, to start the final quarter.
- The Comets scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to make the score 51-50. Olivet was unable to get any closer for the rest of the game.
FOR THE COMETS
- Junior Shawnee Dame posted a double-double, scoring a team-high 18 points and grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds.
- Freshman Sydnee Dennis contributed 12 points. She also grabbed nine rebounds.
- Junior Shannon Dingman and senior Kadesha Taylor both came off the bench to score eight points.
FOR THE HORNETS
- Danielle Simon led all scorers with 21 points.
- Emily Kozal finished with 13 points.
- Mya Gough pulled down a team-leading 11 rebounds.

- Olivet is on the road Saturday afternoon to play Adrian College at 3 p.m.
