Women’s basketball team loses to Hunter, 100-80, in championship game
The Olivet College women’s basketball team lost 100-80 to the host Hawks in the championship game of the Hunter College Tip-Off Tournament and at the Hunter Sportsplex in New York.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Olivet College women's basketball team lost 100-80 to the host Hawks in the championship game of the Hunter College Tip-Off Tournament and at the Hunter Sportsplex in New York.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hunter scored the first five points in the game. Olivet fought back to tie the game at 7-7. The Hawks then went on a 12-0 run to go up 19-7. The Comets responded with a 14-2 run to level the score at 21-21. Olivet took its first lead of the game, 24-23, after freshman Bridget Garter made a three-pointer. The Comets then scored four straight points to take a 28-23 lead. Hunter made two free throws to make the score 28-25 after one quarter.
- The Hawks took the lead back early in the second stanza, 33-31. Olivet responded with a 7-0 run to gain a five-point lead, 38-33. Hunter scored 11 of the final 13 points of the quarter to take a 44-40 lead at the break.
- The Comets fought back in the third quarter to go ahead 49-48 after freshman Fayth Talbert drained a free throw to complete a three-point play. Hunter had its own three-point play to make the score 51-49. The teams traded baskets until a three-pointer by freshman Grace Clark put Olivet back on top, 59-58. The Hawks went back ahead on two free throws before a Comet basket and two free throws pushed Olivet on top, 63-60. Two Hunter made the score 64-63. The Hawks did not trail for the rest of the quarter and took a 71-65 lead into the final quarter.
- Hunter opened the fourth quarter on an 8-2 run to pull away from the Comets. The Hawks led by as many as 21 points twice late in the game.
FOR THE COMETS
- Senior Kadesha Taylor scored 15 points to lead Olivet.
- Junior Shannon Dingman came off the bench to score 14 points, including four baskets from behind the three-point arc.
- Talbert had nine points and a team-leading 10 rebounds.
FOR THE HAWKS
- Jade Aponte led all players with 31 points.
- Maya Thompson posted a double-double with 24 points and game-high 18 rebounds.

- Olivet opens Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play next Tuesday, Nov. 21, when it plays a 7:30 p.m. game at Alma College.
