ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College women's basketball team opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with an 87-50 loss to Trine (Ind.) University this afternoon at Hershey Hall in Angola, Indiana.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Thunder's Hayley Martin made a three-pointer to start the game. Senior Jillian Nickels then scored five straight points for the Comets.
- That would be the last lead for Olivet, as Trine went on a 14-0 run to go up 19-5 with 3:05 left in the first quarter.
- The Comets trailed by 12 points, 24-12, after the first stanza.
- In the second quarter, the Thunder stretched its lead to 21 points three different times. The last one was 45-24 with 35 ticks remaining before the break.
- Freshman Jazmin Hildebrand made two free throws to make the score 45-26 at halftime.
- Trine put the game away by outscoring Olivet, 25-11, in the third quarter.
FOR THE COMETS
- Nickels finished the game with a career-high 18 points, including a perfect 6-of-6 shooting from the free throw line.
- Hildebrand, junior Stephanie Cochran and senior T'Keyia Collins each scored six points.
- Collins also posted team-highs in rebounds (five) and blocks (three).
FOR THE THUNDER
- Martin shot 6-of-7 from the field and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe for a game-high 19 points.
- Brandon Dawson and Katy Steers scored 13 points apiece.
- Dawson, Taylor Cole and Cassidy Williams each grabbed five rebounds.
UP NEXT
- Olivet takes next week off for fall semester final exams and is back on the court Saturday, Dec. 10, when it travels to play Adrian College at 3 p.m.
