Women’s basketball: Comets fly past Warriors, 99-77

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Six players scored in double figures to help the Olivet College women's basketball team fly past Rochester College, 99-77, tonight at Oakland Christian School in Auburn Hills. The 99 points scored ties for the second-most in a game in school history.
Senior Stefanie Lang led the Comets with 20 points. Sophomore Gabby Trudell and junior Jackie Harwood came off the bench to score 14 points apiece. Junior Bre Kidd and senior Carli Reid each had 13 and 12 points, respectively. Freshman Ayren Parrish finished with 10 points.
In the first half, the Warriors led 16-15 at the 13:10 mark. Lang then made a layup to put Olivet ahead to stay. Over the final 13 minutes of the opening half, the Comets out-scored Rochester, 36-13 to build a 51-28 advantage at the break. The 51 points for Olivet is the most in the first half of a game since Nov. 16, 2012, when it scored 59 points against North Central (Ill.) College.
In the second half, the Comets stretched their lead to as many as 39 points, 90-51, with 7:58 remaining in the game. The Warriors' 22-point margin of defeat was their smallest deficit in the second period.
For the game, Olivet shot 55.4 percent from the floor and out-rebounded Rochester, 50-31. Lang made 10-of-17 baskets for her 20 points. Kidd also grabbed 10 rebounds for her first double-double in a Comet uniform.
For the Warriors, Sam Charney led all scorers with 31 points. Jackie Highstreet added 13 points and Tiffany Misch chipped in 10 points.
The Comets (5-4) host Millikin (Ill.) University Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
NOTES: With her 20 points, Lang moved past the 900 career point plateau. She now has 915 career points and needs only 23 points to move into eighth-place on the all-time Olivet scoring list.
