The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to non-conference and NAIA foe Huntington (Ind.) College, 62-56, this afternoon at the Upton Center.
In the first half, the Lady Comets (5-5) led by as many eight points at 15-7 when junior guard Emily Fix (New Buffalo/Comstock Park High School) made a layup with 9:30 left. The Foresters (8-5) battled back with an 11-2 run over the next three minutes to take their first lead of the game.
Huntington stretched its lead to five points on three occasions in the last five minutes, including with 1:25 left before halftime. Olivet tied the game at 27-27 at halftime on a three-point basket by senior guard Molly Lipton (Ann Arbor/Pioneer High School).
After the Foresters scored the first three points of the second half, Olivet answered with a 13-2 run to lead by eight points at the 14:55 mark. Huntington again responded and tied the score at 43-43 with just fewer than 10 minutes to go in the contest.
Both teams traded baskets and free throws over the next two minutes before the Comets took a four point lead at the 7:00 mark. The Foresters outscored Olivet, 15-5, in the last seven minutes to secure the victory.
Lipton and sophomore center Amanda Johnston (Mt. Morris/Genessee High School) paced Olivet with 15 points apiece, followed by Fix with 11 points. Sophomore center Courtney Ivan (Belleville High School) grabbed a team- and game-high 13 rebounds. Johnston pulled down 12 rebounds, 11 off the defensive glass.
Olivet is now idle until after Christmas when it hosts non-league foe Bluffton (Ohio) College on Monday, Dec. 29 at 6 p.m.
