Women’s Basketball Team Falls to MIAA Leader Hope College, 91-60
The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association leader Hope College, 91-60, today at the Upton Center.
OLIVET, MICH. – The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association leader Hope College, 91-60, today at the Upton Center.
After falling behind 18-8, the Lady Comets (6-11, 1-5 MIAA) used a 12-5 run to cut the Hope lead to three points. The Flying Dutch then led by as many as 13 points with 2:44 left in the half. In the second half, the Comets pulled to within three points at the 15:26 mark when senior three-time All-MIAA forward Louisa Grill (Williamston High School) made a layup.
Freshman center Amanda Johnston (Mt. Morris/Genesee High School) paced the Comets with 14 points on five-of-six shooting from the floor. Junior guards Kim Strange (Ellsworth High School) and Molly Lipton (Ann Arbor/Pioneer High School) added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Grill grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and Lipton also had five assists.
Hope (17-0, 6-0 MIAA) had 14 different players score at least two points with Melissa DeBoer coming off the bench to score a game-high 18 points. Katie Nienhuis contributed 16 and Colleen Corey had 10. Nienhuis also had a team-high five rebounds.
Olivet will conclude the first-half of MIAA play next Wednesday, Jan. 29 when it travels to play Albion College at 7:30 p.m.
