Women’s Basketball Team Falls to Kalamazoo, 55-51
The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Kalamazoo College, 55-51, tonight at the Upton Center.
OLIVET, MICH. – The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Kalamazoo College, 55-51, tonight at the Upton Center.
In the first half, the Lady Comets (6-10, 1-4 MIAA) trailed 22-12 with 5:14 remaining before cutting the deficit to four points at 22-18. In the second half, Olivet tied the game at 42-42 when senior three-time All-MIAA forward Louisa Grill (Williamston High School) nailed a jump shot with 5:49 left. The Comets then took a 49-48 lead on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Emily Fix (Comstock Park High School). The Hornets sealed the victory with five free throws in the final 1:11.
Grill scored a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Olivet. Junior guard Molly Lipton (Ann Arbor/Pioneer High School) and freshman center Amanda Johnston (Mt. Morris/Genesee High School) had 10 points a piece. Lipton also dished out a team-best six assists.
Vanessa Larkin scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Kalamazoo (10-5, 4-1).
The Comets will conclude their three-game homestand on Saturday when they play MIAA leader Hope College at 3 p.m.
