Three Olivet College Players Named to the 2003 All-MIAA Basketball Teams
Three Olivet College basketball players have been named to the 2003 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Teams. Sophomore forward Ronnie Pearson (Holly High School) has been named to the second-team All-MIAA Men’s Basketball Team. Senior forward Louisa Grill (Williamston High School) and freshman center Amanda Johnston (Mt. Morris/Genesee High School) have been selected to the second-team All-MIAA Women’s Basketball Team.
OLIVET, Mich. -- Three Olivet College basketball players have been named to the 2003 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Teams. Sophomore forward Ronnie Pearson (Holly High School) has been named to the second-team All-MIAA Men's Basketball Team. Senior forward Louisa Grill (Williamston High School) and freshman center Amanda Johnston (Mt. Morris/Genesee High School) have been selected to the second-team All-MIAA Women's Basketball Team.
Pearson led the Fighting Comets in rebounding (4.0 rpg) and was second in scoring (8.9 ppg) and steals (38). He also shot a team-best 52.3 percent (92-of-176) from the floor.
Grill earned All-MIAA honors for the fourth straight season. During her career, she broke seven career and four single-season records. Grill is Olivet's all-time leading scorer with 1,310 points. This season, Grill led the Comets in scoring (12.8 ppg), rebounding (8.7 rpg) and blocked shots (21).
For the season, Johnston averaged 8.5 ppg and 5.2 rpg. She also made a team-high 51.5 percent (87-of-169) of her shots from the floor. During Olivet's 14 MIAA games, Johnston led the Comets in scoring (13.3 ppg) and was second in rebounding (6.6 rpg).
In addition, junior guard Matt Brawley (Niles High School), senior forward Patrick Dermyer (Chase/Reed City High School), freshman forward De'Andre Pruitt (River Rouge High School) and junior guard Travis Schellhammer (Grand Ledge High School) earned coaches' honorable mention honors.
Junior guards Molly Lipton (Ann Arbor/Pioneer High School) and Kim Strange (Ellsworth High School) were selected to the coaches' honorable mention team.
