Softball team gains doubleheader split against Adrian
The Olivet College softball team gained a split in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader against Adrian College this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. After being shut out 2-0 in the first game, the Comets scored at least one run in each of the first four innings to win the second game, 5-3.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College softball team gained a split in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader against Adrian College this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. After being shut out 2-0 in the first game, the Comets scored at least one run in each of the first four innings to win the second game, 5-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
- The game was a pitcher's duel for the first five innings.
- The Bulldogs used a two-out hit to score their first run in the sixth inning.
- The Comets left the tying run stranded at third base in the home half of the sixth.
- Adrian added an insurance run in the seventh inning.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet was held to just four hits, including a 2-for-3 performance by junior Andrea Rico.
- Sophomore Gracie Boyle was the hard-luck loser in the circle. She gave up the two runs on nine hits, while striking out five over seven innings.
FOR THE BULLDOGS
- Jamie Bell and Lindsey Branscum each went 2-for-4.
- Bell scored a run, and Branscum drove in a run.
- Rebecca Neal was the winning pitcher.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
- Batting as the visiting team, the Comets plated a run in the top half of the first inning. Rico reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to second on a ground out and came around to score on senior Konnor Geiger's double to the left-center field gap.
- Olivet pushed across two more runs in the second inning. With two runners on base, sophomore Courtney Willson grounded out to bring home junior Dominique McKillop. On the play, an error allowed sophomore Taylor Shellenberger to score the second run.
- The Bulldogs got one run back in the home half of the second.
- The Comets answered with a run in the third inning after Blouin hit a triple and scored on Geiger's ground out.
- Olivet plated one more run in the fourth inning. Shellenberger had a double, and went to third on freshman Paige Poulter's hit. Willson hit a sacrifice fly to score Shellenberger.
- Adrian scored two runs and left the bases loaded in its half of the fifth inning.
FOR THE COMETS
- Eight of nine starters had at least one hit.
- Blouin had two hits and scored a run.
- Geiger and Willson each collected two RBI.
- In the circle, Shellenberger picked-up the win after giving one earned run on six hits over five innings.
- Boyle earned the save after yielding one hit in two innings of relief.
FOR THE BULLDOGS
- Taylor Van't Land was 2-for-2 with two RBI.
- Natalia Younan also tallied two hits.
- Loren Vail suffered the pitching loss after surrendering four earned runs on seven hits over four innings.
- Emily Baldus completed the game in the circle.
