Softball team defeats Albright, 6-1, and Maine-Farmington, 8-4, in Florida
The Olivet College softball team defeated Albright (Pa.) College, 6-1, and University of Maine at Farmington, 8-4, this morning at the Minneola Athletic Complex in Minneola, Florida. With the win, the Comets improve their overall record to 9-3.

MINNEOLA, Fla. – The Olivet College softball team defeated Albright (Pa.) College, 6-1, and University of Maine at Farmington, 8-4, this morning at the Minneola Athletic Complex in Minneola, Florida. With the win, the Comets improve their overall record to 9-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets used three hits and a pair of fielder's choices to score five runs in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, sophomore Dominique McKillop was hit by a pitch to bring in the first run and re-load the bases. Senior Nikole Kern reached on an infield single to score the second run. After two outs were recorded, junior Andrea Rico cleared the bases with a double to deep center field.
- Olivet added a single tally in the fifth inning. With senior Konnor Geiger on second base, sophomore Haley Harty lined an RBI-single to score Geiger.
- The Lions scored their only run in the sixth inning.
FOR THE COMETS
- At the plate, Rico was 2-for-3 with three RBI. In the circle, she earned the win after giving up the one run on five hits over five and one-third innings.
- Sophomore Taylor Shellenberger threw the final inning and two-thirds, striking out two batters.
- Geiger and Shellenberger also had two hits apiece.
FOR THE LIONS
- Brooke Yerger recorded two of the six Albright hits.
- Camille Sears suffered the pitching loss after giving up all six runs on seven hits over five innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets plated three runs in top half of the third inning. Shellenberger led off with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by sophomore Courtney Willson. Willson went to second on the throw home and came around to score on Rico's double. A fly out advanced Rico to third and Geiger's single scored Rico.
- Olivet stretched its lead to 5-0 on a two-run double down the right left field line by Rico in the fourth inning.
- The Beavers cut their deficit to two runs, 5-3, with a single tally in the bottom half of the fourth and fifth innings.
- The Comets scored three insurance runs in the seventh inning. Rico deposited the first pitch of the inning over the fence in left field for her first collegiate home run. McKillop walked, went to second on Geiger's single and came around to score on a single by sophomore Jazmin Hildebrand. A fielder's choice by junior Danielle McCoy brought in Geirger with the third run of the inning.
- Maine-Farmington scored a run in the home half of the seventh inning after a leadoff double came around to score.
FOR THE COMETS
- Rico had another big game, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, home run and four RBI.
- Geiger, Shellenberger and freshman Erin Scanlon also posted a multi-hit game with two hits apiece.
- Sophomore Gracie Boyle picked-up her fourth win of the season in the circle. She allowed one earned run on 12 hits in the complete game performance.
FOR THE BEAVERS
- Leah Stevens notched three hits.
- Three other players each had a pair of hits.
- Margaret Fogarty tallied the lone extra base hit, a double.
- Kailyn Hill was charged with the pitching loss. She gave up eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits.
UP NEXT
- The Comets wrap-up their spring break trip tomorrow with two games. The first is against Smith (Mass.) College at 3 p.m., and the second is against Wesleyan (Conn.) University at 7:30 p.m. Both games are Hancock Park in Clermont, Florida.
