Cross country teams finish in sixth and eighth at MIAA Jamboree
The Olivet College men’s and women’s cross country teams placed sixth and eighth at the 2017 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree, ran today at the West Ottawa Golf Course in Holland.

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's cross country teams placed sixth and eighth at the 2017 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree, ran today at the West Ottawa Golf Course in Holland.
THE BASICS
Location: West Ottawa Golf Course; Holland, Mich.
FOR THE COMET MEN (8K RUN)
- Olivet totaled 153 points to finish ahead of Adrian College. Alma College was only three points ahead of the Comets.
- Senior Bruce Baker finished in fifth-place with a personal-best time of 25:31.7.
- Junior Mark Smith was 40th with a time of 27:19.0.
- Junior Brad Thomas crossed the finish line in 29:05.1.
- Sophomore James Thurman was next at 30:09.3.
- Freshmen Jaden Costa and Dewan Hawthorne had times of 31:35.1 and 32:20.0, respectively.
FOR THE COMET WOMEN (6K RUN)
- Olivet recorded 201 total points, which was just seven points behind Saint Mary's (Ind.) College.
- Senior Nicole Zerfas placed 40th with a time of 25:11.7.
- Freshman Morgan Greenman was next at 26:26.2.
- Senior Abigail Gaines completed the race in 27:04.8.
- Junior Nicole Gilbert finished in 27:43.0.
- Junior Jessica Taylor ran the race in 27:55.8.
- Freshman Maisie Baker had a time of 29:11.9.
UP NEXT
- Olivet is off until Friday, Oct. 6, when it runs at the Lansing Community College Invitational at Grand Woods Park. The women's 5K race starts at 1:30 p.m., followed by the men's 8K race at 2:15 p.m.
