Men’s volleyball comes up short in four-set match at Mount St. Joseph
CINCINNATI, Ohio – Playing its third match in three days, the Olivet College men’s volleyball team suffered a four-set loss to Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) foe Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) University tonight at the Harrington Center.

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Playing its third match in three nights, the Olivet College men's volleyball team suffered a four-set loss to Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) foe Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) University tonight at the Harrington Center.

- After the Comets scored the first point of the opening set on a kill by senior Brock Pringle, the Lions scored the next three points on three straight kills. The teams traded points to create three more one-point margins. Following a 6-5 score, Mount St. Joseph went on an 8-1 run to go up 14-6. Olivet closed the gap to six points before a 4-0 Lion spurt made the score 20-10. Mount St. Joseph went on to win the set by a 25-14 score.
- The Comets raced out to a 9-2 lead in the second set. The Lions chipped away at their deficit and trailed by two points, 22-20. Following an Olivet timeout, freshman Aaron Smith and senior Aaron Giorgi had kills to get to set point for the Comets. After Mount St. Joseph called timeout, a bad set for the Lions handed the set to Olivet.
- Early in the third set, the score was tied 4-4. From there, the Lions used an 8-2 run to go up 12-6. The Comets came back to cut their deficit to a single point on three occasions (16-15, 17-16 and 18-17) but were never able to tie or take the lead for the remainder of the set.
- Mount St. Joseph led 7-4 in the fourth set. Olivet responded with a 5-1 run to gain a 9-8 lead. The score would stay at a one-point difference until the Lions went on a 5-0 run for a 19-13 lead. Mount St. Joseph held the advantage for the rest of the set.
- Three players reached double digits in kills, led by Pringle's match-best 15.
- Giorgi and Smith finished with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
- Giorgi collected a match-high 35 set assists.
- Freshman Dustin Stueck topped the defense with 15 digs.
- Giorgi had had 13 digs, while senior Deivan Prince had 11.
- Jason Hascher topped the team with 13 kills.
- Hayden Wood was next with 12 kills.
- Rey Sanchez recorded 24 set assists, followed by Josh Kabel with 19.
- Breckin Johnston led the defense with 19 digs.
- Kabel had 14 digs.
- Jack Spohn tallied eight blocks (two solo and six assisted).
- Olivet heads west to play Fontbonne (Mo.) University Sunday afternoon. First serve is at 2 p.m. EST.
