Track and field teams compete at Defiance Invitational

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Olivet College men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed today at the Defiance College Invitational, held indoors at the George M. Smart Athletic Center in Defiance, Ohio.

FOR THE WOMEN

• Nicole Zerfas had the third-fastest time in the 800-meter run at 2:33.83.
• The distance medley quartet of Isabelle Leon, Samantha Torres, Zerfas and Abigail Gaines placed second with a time of 14:19.63.
• Michaela Kaliniak posted a runner-up finish in the pole vault, as she soared over the bar at 10 feet and 4 inches.
• Madison Grace finished fourth in the shot put with a 34 feet and 4-3/4 inch toss and fifth in the weight throw with a 45 feet and 1/4 inch toss.

FOR THE MEN

• Mark Smith finished in third-place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:13.66.
• John Adams III placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.42 seconds.
• The distance medley relay team of Ernesto Gutierrez, Justin Maidlow, Ethan Barrett and Bruce Baker was second with a time of 11:13.29.
• Zane Paksi was third in the pole vault with a school-record clearance of 12 feet and 6-1/4 inches.
• Jacob Smith registered a third-place performance in the shot put with a 44 feet and 9-3/4 inch toss.

UP NEXT

• Olivet participates in the Hillsdale College Wide Track Classic next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2-3. Field events start at noon on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday, while running events get under way at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
