Meisner and Pipkin named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV first-team
Olivet College senior Dustin Meisner (Temperance/Erie Mason) and junior Lindsay Pipkin (White Lake/Lakeland) have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV first-team, as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America.
OLIVET, Mich. -- Olivet College senior Dustin Meisner (Temperance/Erie Mason) and junior Lindsay Pipkin (White Lake/Lakeland) have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV first-team, as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America. Meisner and Pipkin are now eligible for Academic All-America® honors.
Meisner was a four-year letterwinner on the men's swimming and diving team. He holds the school record in both the 100- (:57.19) and 200-yard (2:04.61) breaststroke and swam the breaststroke leg of the school-record setting 200- and 400-yard medley relays. Meisner earned All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honors four straight years.
Out of the pool, Meisner graduated with a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) in a double major of biology and visual arts. He was a member of Art Alliance, Hosford Society, Omicron Delta Kappa and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
In 2007, Meisner earned first-team Academic All-America® and Academic All-District IV honors. In 2006, he was a third-team Academic All-America® and first-team Academic All-District IV selection.
Pipkin has earned three varsity letters as a member of the women's golf team. A three-time All-MIAA selection, she helped Olivet finish 11th at the 2008 NCAA Division III National Championships. In addition, the Comets have won two straight MIAA championships. During the fall, Pipkin posted a team-low 81.9 stroke average in 14 rounds and this spring, she averaged 85.5 strokes in eight rounds. Pipkin is one of three individuals tied for the 18-hole school record with a 74.
Pipkin carries a 3.92 GPA in biology with a pre-medical concentration. She is a member of Amnesty International, Alpha Phi Upsilon and Omicron Delta Kappa. Pipkin also volunteers as an AmeriCorps member at Joy-Southfield Free Health Care Clinic.
The Academic All-America® program recognizes student-athletes who have succeeded in athletic competition and in the classroom. The members of the All-District IV teams are selected by sports information directors in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be eligible, the student-athlete must have legitimate athletic credentials and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20.
