OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's soccer team fell to Dominican (Ill.) University, 3-1, in a non-conference contest today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
The Comets jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when freshman David Magallon placed a shot into the upper corner of the net at the far post in the fifth minute of play. Junior Cory Werner-Hoskins was given an assist on the goal. The Stars scored the equalizer in the 12th minute off a free kick. In the 37th minute, Dominican scored the go-ahead goal off a scramble in front of the net. The Stars added an insurance goal in the 63rd minute.
In the game, Olivet had six total shots, with six different players each being credited with one. Four of the shots were placed on-frame. Senior Matt Van Houten played all 90 minutes in goal and made four saves.
The Comets now turn their attention to the final two regular Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular-season games this week. On Wednesday, Olivet hosts Adrian College at 4 p.m., and on Saturday, it travels to play Calvin College at 2:30 p.m.
NOTES: Magallon's goal was the first of his collegiate soccer career. Prior to the game, the Comets recognized their eight seniors – Camden Iwasko, Alex Lang, John Leutzinger, Jon Puente, Zach Schulz, Evan Simpson, Van Houten and Jared Wilson-Santos. These eight seniors have helped Olivet post a 48-31-3 overall record over the last four seasons.
