ADRIAN, Mich. – Four different players scored a goal to help the Olivet College men's soccer team defeat Adrian College, 4-1, this afternoon at Docking Stadium in Adrian.
Junior Cory Werner-Hoskins netted the first goal on a header and off a corner kick by senior Jared Wilson-Santos in the 12th minute. The Comets then scored two goals in a two-minute span to go up 3-0. The first was by senior Camden Iwasko off an assist from sophomore Michael Brait at the 29:27 mark. Senior Zach Schulz scored the second off a pass from Wilson-Santos. The score stayed 3-0 at halftime.
Olivet stretched its lead to 4-0 on a goal by Wilson-Santos in the 70th minute. Senior Jon Puente was given an assist on the goal. The Bulldogs tallied their only goal in the 77th minute.
The Comets finished the game with a 16-10 advantage in total shots, with a 7-5 edge in shots-on-goal. Schulz led the way with five shots, followed by Iwasko with three. Senior Alex Lang started in net. He played 62 minutes, 31 seconds and made one save. Senior Matt Van Houten finished the game in goal, allowed the goal and collected three saves.
"We had a great performance today and killed the game off in the first half for the first time this season," said Olivet Head Coach Dan Bulley. "The result wasn't as pleasing as the way we performed and the soccer we played. We were clinical in front of goal and found that bit of class.
Jared continues to mesmerize us all with his talent. Schulz continues to be lethal in front of goal and this is challenging others to step up. The team as a whole is responding well and we are very excited about the rest of the season. We know we will outplay teams but we must continue to be focused defensively and keep our cutting edge in front of goal."
The Comets (5-6, 3-3 MIAA) wrap-up the first half of their league schedule Tuesday afternoon when they host Calvin College at 4 p.m.
