ELMHURST, Ill. – The Olivet College men's soccer team lost 1-0 to Elmhurst (Ill.) College this afternoon at Langhorst Field in Elmhurst, Ill.
The Bluejays scored the only goal in the 23rd minute on a blast from 30 yards out by Jeff Kadding. The Comets' best scoring chance came with 12:41 left in the game. Senior goalkeeper Alex Lang punted the ball nearly 70 yards into the box. Junior Cory Werner-Hoskins headed the ball towards the goal, but the Elmhurst keeper was able to use his left hand to punch the ball over the net.
Olivet had only eight shots in the game. Werner-Hoskins had a game-high four shots. Lang faced 20 shots and made six saves in goal.
"We are still upbeat despite a 1-0 loss," said Olivet Head Coach Dan Bulley. "The stat sheet does not do our performance justice today. We were unlucky to not at least get a tie out of today. We will now rest our tired bodies after two games in two days.
"I cannot compliment the guys enough for their work rate and dedication to the team. We are excited to get home and prepare for a game on Wednesday when there are points up for grabs in a conference match up."
The Comets resume their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) schedule with two road games this week. On Wednesday night, they play a 7 p.m. game at defending MIAA tournament champion Hope College, and on Saturday afternoon, they play at Adrian College at noon.
