OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 shutout loss to Alma College today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
The Scots scored the only goal of the game on a penalty kick with 22 minutes left in the opening half. The PK was called after the referee ruled Olivet's keeper tripped an Alma player inside the box. The Comets had several scoring chances stopped by the keeper late in the first half.
Olivet had a couple more chances to score the equalizer in the second half. The best opportunities were headers by freshman Vince Geremia off corner kicks.
The Comets finished the game with 17 shots, placing eight on-goal. Geremia topped the team with three shots, while six other players each took two. Junior Ryan Grashik faced 11 shots and made three saves in goal.
The Comets (3-4, 1-2 MIAA) will play their next four games on the road, beginning Saturday night against Kalamazoo College. Game time from Mackenzie Field is 7 p.m.
