DEFIANCE, Ohio -- Sophomore Jake Jensen (Vicksburg) scored the only goal, and the Olivet College men's soccer team beat Defiance (Ohio) College, 1-0, in a non-conference game this afternoon at the Winsper-Knobel Field in Defiance, Ohio.
The game was scoreless until there was 15:09 left in the game. Off a short corner kick, freshman Adam Wright (Wixom/Walled Lake Western) sent a pass up to freshman Daniel Hampsten (Plainwell), who took a shot that hit off the post. Jensen gathered the rebound, sending the ball into the goal.
For the game, the Comets out-shot the Yellow Jackets, 12-8, including 7-4 in shots-on-goal. Hampsten and freshman Fred Smyser (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Eastern) each recorded three shots. Senior Ethan Felsing (Mason) posted the shutout in goal and made four saves.
"I was very happy with our effort," said Head Coach Chad Wiseman. "The conditions were difficult to play in, but the result was great. After being on the road for our first three games, we are excited about playing on our own field."
Next up for Olivet (2-1) is its home-opener Saturday against Marygrove College at 1 p.m.
