The Olivet College men's soccer team opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with a 2-0 win against Adrian College this afternoon at the Multi-Sport Performance Stadium in Adrian.
Freshman James Heuker (Rockford/Cedar Springs) entered the game at the 31:40 mark and was an immediate spark, scoring a goal just one minute, eight seconds later. He buried his shot from five yards out after receiving a pass from freshman Matt Garza (Pinckney/Saline). The score remained 1-0 at the break.
The Comets (5-2, 1-0 MIAA) added to their lead in the 61st minute when freshman Daniel Casey-Dunn (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal. Junior Mike May (Mason), a two-time All-MIAA selection, had an assist on the goal.
Olivet was out-shot 16-14 in shots, but it had a 6-3 edge in shots-on-goal. Each team had two corner kicks. Casey-Dunn and May topped the Comets with four shots apiece. Junior Ethan Felsing (Mason) made three saves, while playing all 90 minutes in goal.
