The Olivet College men's soccer team extended its winning streak to three games with a 2-1 win over Trine (Ind.) University today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
Behind a goal in the 15th minute, the Thunder led 1-0. Olivet tied the game at 1-1 when sophomore Mike May (Mason) converted a penalty kick goal. The PK was called after senior Andrew Evans (Eastport/Petoskey) was fouled in the box. The Comets had a chance to take the lead in the first half, but they missed two other PK goals. One was saved by the Thunder keeper and the second went high above the net.
Olivet scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 55th minute. After Trine attempted to clear a Comet free kick out of the goalkeeper's box, senior Graham Lockwood (Haslett/Williamston) blasted a shot into the back, right corner of the goal.
Olivet finished the game with 18 shots (13 on-goal). May led the way with eight shots (six on-goal). Lockwood took four shots. In goal, sophomore Ethan Felsing (Mason) collected eight saves on 17 Thunder shots.
The Comets will look for their fourth straight win when they travel to play Hope College Wednesday at 4 p.m.
