Men’s soccer team opens MIAA play with 2-1 win at Tri-State
The Olivet College men’s soccer team opened the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) portion of its schedule with a 2-1 win today at Tri-State (Ind.) University. The win also snapped a five-game losing streak for the Comets (1-5, 1-0 MIAA).

The Olivet College men's soccer team opened the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) portion of its schedule with a 2-1 win today at Tri-State (Ind.) University. The win also snapped a five-game losing streak for the Comets (1-5, 1-0 MIAA).
Freshman Josh VanWagner (Jackson/Lumen Christi) put Olivet on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal just 17 seconds before halftime. In the second half, VanWagner made the score 2-0 with a goal in the 76th minute. Sophomore Kevin Hagan (East Lansing) was credited with an assist on the goal. The Thunder (1-6, 0-1 MIAA) scored their goal in the 82nd minute.
For the game, Olivet took nine shots to 10 for Tri-State. Hagan and VanWagner each had three shots. Junior goalkeeper Michael Manning (Charlotte) made two saves in 90 minutes.
The Comets are back in action Saturday, Sept. 23, when they host Adrian College at 2 p.m. It is also the first game of a women's-men's soccer doubleheader as the Olivet women will play Alma College at noon.
