The Olivet College men's soccer team fell to Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU), 4-1, this afternoon in its home-opener in Olivet.
The Cardinals (2-1) led 2-0 at halftime. The Comets (0-3) made the score 2-1 with a goal just 2:13 into the second half. Sophomore Graham Lockwood (Williamston) passed the ball to sophomore Kevin Hagan (East Lansing), who sent the ball past the keeper and into the back corner of the goal. SVSU put the game out of reach with two goals in a span of just over two minutes.
For the game, Olivet had 12 shots, including four by Hagan and two each by Lockwood and sophomore Brian Knechtges (Williamston). Four others had a shot a piece. In goal, sophomore Michael Manning (Charlotte) faced 14 shots and made five saves.
The Comets are back in action Sept. 9-10 when they participate in the 20th Annual Univ. of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Valley Cup Invitational. On Sept. 9, they will play St. Norbert (Wisc.) College at noon CT. On Sept. 10, Olivet plays the host Titans at 2:30 p.m. CT.
