OLIVET, Mich. — Olivet College Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Matt Holtz has been named to the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) "Champion The Game" Technology Committee. Holtz is one of two NCAA Division III coaches to be appointed to the committee, with the rest of the committee is composed of Division I representatives.
The chair of the initiative, Dom Starsia, former coach of University of Virginia and a 2008 inductee to the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame hand-selected the committee. The responsibilities of the Champion the Game technology committee include data management, working closely with HUDL (film exchange company), website management, convention app and the technological needs of the convention itself.
"Coach Holtz was a natural fit for this committee," said Olivet Athletic Director Ryan Shockey. "His past experience and knowledge in both technology and lacrosse will be an asset to this important initiative. It is important for DIII schools to have a voice in the national landscape of this growing sport."
Holtz is entering his third season as the head men's lacrosse coach at Olivet College in 2018. In 2017, he helped the Comets advance to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament for a fourth straight season. Overall, Olivet had a 7-7 record, including a 5-2 mark to tie for second-place in the league standings, which was the highest finish in school history. Olivet is scheduled to open the 2018 season Saturday, Feb. 17, when it hosts Concordia (Wis.) University at noon.
