Men’s lacrosse team beats Trine, 13-10, to secure bid to the 2017 MIAA Tournament
The Olivet College men’s lacrosse team hung on to beat Trine (Ind.) University, 13-10, tonight at Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium in Angola, Indiana. With the win, the Comets have secured a bid to the 2017 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament.

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College men's lacrosse team hung on to beat Trine (Ind.) University, 13-10, tonight at Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium in Angola, Indiana. With the win, the Comets have secured a bid to the 2017 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- At the end of the first quarter, the Comets led 4-1 behind goals by junior Cullen Haesler, junior Logan Krieger, senior Tyler Polendo and sophomore Zach Sanders.
- Olivet out-scored the Thunder 6-2 in the second quarter for a 10-3 halftime lead. Freshman Trevor Bailey notched two goals, while Krieger, Sanders, freshman Jake Kovalcik and senior Shane Prunty each had one.
- Trine scored six of the seven goals in the third quarter to trail by two, 11-9, entering the final quarter.
- Off the opening face-off, the Thunder netted the first goal of the final quarter to make the score 11-10.
- There was no scoring until the 5:15 mark when Bailey scored an unassisted goal.
- Sanders added an insurance tally off an assist from senior Nino Minaudo with 1:19 remaining.
FOR THE COMETS
- Bailey finished the game with five points on four goals and one assist. He also recoded a game-high 12 shots, placing half on-goal.
- Sanders also had five points on three goals and two assists.
- Krieger tallied an assist to go with his two goals for three points.
- Minaudo notched two assists.
- Kovalcik won 10-of-18 face-offs.
- Senior Charlie Haesler caused five turnovers to raise his season total to 45.
- Charlie Haesler, Minaudo and Polendo each registered six ground balls.
- Senior Drew Radners was the winning keeper, making five saves on 39 Trine shots.
FOR THE THUNDER
- Nick Maher scored a team-best three goals.
- Seven others each had one goal.
- Ian Grise and Jordan Lelito each recorded two assists.
- Two goalies combined to play the 60 minutes. Joseph Steigmeyer allowed nine goals on 13 shots in 26 minutes and 37 seconds. Zachary Peterson gave up the final four goals on 10 shots in 33 minutes and 23 seconds.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Cullen Haesler's goal was just the second of his career.
