Polendo’s golden-goal garners local and national recognition

OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College senior attacker's Tyler Polendo's golden-goal in the men's lacrosse team's 17-16 overtime win April 22 against Hope College has garnered local and national recognition.
Locally, on the 11 o'clock sportscast last night, the goal was shown in the WLNS TV 6 Sports "Ya Gotta See This" segment. Tonight, on the 6 o'clock broadcast, the CBS affiliate in Lansing also selected the goal as the "6 Sports Play of the Week."
Nationally, the NCAA included the goal at No. 4 in its Top 10 for last week. The top 10 features the top plays across all NCAA divisions and sports.
Olivet play its final two regular season contest this week and each game has an impact on the seeding for next week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament. The Comets, who are tied for second with Hope for second-place in the league standings with a 4-1 record, play tomorrow at Trine (Ind.) University, who is tied for fourth-place with Alma College with 3-2 records. Opening face-off is set for 6 p.m.
Olivet then hosts first-place and 5-0 Albion College Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. The Britons battle Hope tomorrow night at 7 p.m., while Trine hosts Hope Saturday afternoon. When the dust settles on Saturday, the top four teams will participate in the MIAA Tournament. The top two seeds will host semifinal games on Thursday, May 4, with the championship game at the highest remaining seed on Saturday, May 6.
