Polendo scores seven goals, men’s lacrosse team rolls to 21-6 win over Calvin in MIAA-opener
Senior Tyler Polendo tallied a team-best seven goals to lead the Olivet College men’s lacrosse team to a 21-6 win over Calvin College in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opener today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

OLIVET, Mich. – Senior Tyler Polendo tallied a team-best seven goals to lead the Olivet College men's lacrosse team to a 21-6 win over Calvin College in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opener today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Teams alternated the first four goals to create a 2-2 score.
- Olivet ended the first quarter on an 8-0 run to go up 10-2. Polendo scored half of the goals in the opening stanza.
- The Comets stretched their lead to 15-2 with five straight goals in the first seven minutes and four seconds of the second quarter.
- After the Knights scored to make the score 15-3 with 4:05 remaining in the second quarter, junior Logan Krieger scored with five seconds left to put Olivet up 16-3 at halftime.
- Like the second quarter, the Comets put the first five goals on the scoreboard in the third period for a 21-3 advantage.
- Calvin scored the final three goals of the game.
FOR THE COMETS
- Polendo finished the game with a team-leading seven goals to go along with an assist for eight points. He also took a team-best 13 shots.
- Senior Nino Minaudo also finished with eight points on four goals and four assists.
- Krieger had eight points, including a game-high five assists.
- Freshman Trevor Bailey recorded three goals and four assists.
- Sophomore Bryce Drew scored twice.
- Freshman Jake Kovalcik and senior Shane Prunty each had a goal and an assist.
- Senior Charlie Haesler and junior Cullen Haesler topped the defense with three caused turnovers apiece, while Charlie Haesler scooped-up a team-leading six ground balls.
- Senior Drew Radners earned the win in the cage, as he made 12 saves while facing 31 shots.
FOR THE KNIGHTS
- Joel Schaefer led Calvin with two goals.
- Also scoring goals were Noah Nedd, Chris Griffin, Austin Bontreger and Max Foster.
- Ethan Brown had a team-best seven ground balls.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The 21 goals scored ties for the second-most in school history in game against a MIAA opponent. The most is 23 vs. Hope College on April 23, 2016.
- The 10 goals scored in the first quarter ties for most for any quarter in school history. The last time Olivet had 10 goals in a quarter was March 12, 2013, against Green Mountain (Vt.) College.
- In five all-time meetings against Calvin, the Comets have out-scored the Knights, 97-36.
