OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's lacrosse team dropped an 11-9 decision to Oberlin (Ohio) College in its home-opener this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half was a tale of two quarters, as Oberlin led 3-0 after the first quarter before Olivet scored four unanswered goals in the second quarter to hold a 4-3 halftime lead.
- The Yeomen leveled the score at 4-4 with goal only 27 seconds into the third quarter.
- Oberlin netted three of the next four goals to go up 7-5 with 3:05 left in the third period.
- The Comets closed their deficit to one, 7-6, on an unassisted tally by sophomore Zach Sanders.
- The Yeomen scored a goal with 28 seconds remaining in the third stanza to maintain their two-goal lead, 8-6.
- Oberlin scored two of the first three goals of the fourth quarter to take a 10-7 lead.
- Olivet did not go down quietly, as junior Logan Krieger scored off a pass from senior Nino Minaudo, and senior Tyler Polendo scored off a feed from sophomore Bryce Drew to make the score 10-9 with just under three minutes left in the game.
- With 1:48 left, a shot by Polendo clanged off the post.
- The Yeomen scored a man-up goal with 22 seconds showing on the clock to cap their scoring.
FOR THE COMETS
- Polendo led the Comets with three goals.
- Drew, Krieger and Minaudo each had a goal and two assists for three points.
- Freshman Jake Kovalcik scored two goals, while Sanders registered two points (one goal and one assist).
- Minaudo recorded a team-best 10 shots.
- Junior Cullen Haesler scooped-up a team-leading seven ground balls.
- Freshman Chase Keilitz played the entire game in goal, collecting 13 saves while facing 48 total shots.
FOR THE YEOMEN
- Jay Messina topped the team with four goals and two assists for six points.
- Eric Hager also had six points (two goals and four assists).
- Steve Kelleher recorded 10 shots.
- Calvin Filson was the winning keeper, as he had 12 saves while facing 38 shots.
UP NEXT
- Olivet stays home to face Augustana (Ill.) College next Saturday, March 11. Opening face-off is set for noon.
