Men’s lacrosse team bows out of MIAA Tournament with 14-8 loss at Albion
The Olivet College men’s lacrosse team fell to Albion College, 14-8, in the semifinals of the 2016 MIAA Tournament at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium in Albion.
ALBION, Mich. – The Olivet College men's lacrosse team fell to Albion College, 14-8, in the semifinals of the 2016 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium in Albion.
Junior Logan Krieger scored the first goal of the game at the 11:39 mark of the opening quarter. The Britons answered with two goals to take the lead before a goal by junior Tyler Polendo tied the game at 2-2. Albion scored a goal at the 1:34 mark of the first quarter. The score would stay 3-2 at the end of one quarter of play.
The Britons opened the second quarter with two straight goals to extend their lead to 5-2. The Comets responded with its own 2-0 scoring run on goals by Krieger and junior Nino Minaudo to trim their deficit down to one, 5-4. Albion scored the last goal of the quarter to take a 6-4 lead at halftime.
Senior Dakota Badder netted a man-up goal with 12:42 left in the third quarter to make it a one-goal game at 6-5. With that goal, he became Olivet's career leader for goals. After the Britons scored, Polendo had an answer with an unassisted goal to keep the margin at one, 7-6.
Albion broke the game open with the final three goals of the third period to gain a 10-6 lead, the largest for either team in the contest. Olivet would get as close as three on two occasions in the fourth quarter, 10-7 and 11-8. The Britons netted the final three goals of the game.
For the game, Badder and Polendo finished with two goals and two assists for four points apiece. Minaudo had three points on a goal and two assists. Krieger also scored two goals, as well as recording a team-best eight shots. Senior Ryan McGee made 21 saves in goal.
The Comets finish the 2016 season with a 6-10 overall record. Badder ends an outstanding four-year career in an Olivet uniform, as the all-time leader for points (218), goals (136), assists (82) and shots attempted (371). McGee leaves Olivet as the career leader for saves (732).
