Badder and Ranson reach milestones, men’s lacrosse team beats Kalamazoo, 18-5
Seniors Dakota Badder and Jack Ranson reached career scoring milestones, as the Olivet College men’s lacrosse team beat Kalamazoo College, 18-5, this evening at Mackenzie Field in Kalamazoo. Badder collected the 200th point of his career, while Ranson notched his 100th career point.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Seniors Dakota Badder and Jack Ranson reached career scoring milestones, as the Olivet College men's lacrosse team beat Kalamazoo College, 18-5, this evening at Mackenzie Field in Kalamazoo. Badder collected the 200th point of his career, while Ranson notched his 100th career point.
Olivet took a 2-0 lead when Badder scored twice in a 32-second span midway through the first quarter. The Hornets tied the game with two goals late in the period. The Comets went ahead 6-2 with four straight goals, including one by Ranson for his 100th point. Kalamazoo scored the last goal of the second quarter to trail by three, 6-3, at halftime.
Badder netted his 200th point on an unassisted goal with 8:56 remaining in the third quarter. After the Hornets netted a goal to make the score 7-4, three different Comets scored to put Olivet ahead 10-4. A Kalamazoo goal made the score 10-5 entering the fourth quarter.
In the final quarter, the Comets scored eight goals and kept the Hornets off the scoreboard. Two goals by Ranson came early in the final quarter. Junior Tyler Polendo scored his second goal of the game and then assisted on freshman Zach Sanders' second goal of the game. Junior Logan Krieger scored off a pass from Badder. Sanders added his second goal of the period off a feed from Minaudo. Minaudo capped the scoring with two unassisted goals.
For the game, Badder (four goals, one assist) and Minaudo (three goals, two assists) finished with five points each. Ranson was next with four points (three goals, one assist). Sanders (three goals), Krieger (two goals, one assist) and Polendo (two goals, one assist) registered three points apiece. Sophomore Josh Reimer tallied his first collegiate goal.
Three players – Badder, Minaudo and Ranson – all had nine shots, while Krieger had eight. Badder placed a team-high eight shots on-goal. Olivet recorded 49 total ground balls, with junior Charlie Haesler scooping-up a team-best 11. Younger brother Cullen Haesler had eight ground balls. Senior Hunter Teare won 16-of-25 face-offs. Senior Ryan McGee earned the win in between the pipes.
Olivet, winners of three straight games, hosts Hope College Saturday afternoon. Opening face-off at the Cutler Athletic Complex is scheduled for 1 p.m.
