Badder, Minaudo and Teare lead men’s lacrosse team to 19-2 win over Muskingum
Senior Hunter Teare broke the single-game school record with 17 face-off wins to lead the Olivet College men’s lacrosse team to a 19-2 win over Muskingum (Ohio) University on a cold and snowy afternoon inside the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – Senior Hunter Teare broke the single-game school record with 17 face-off wins to lead the Olivet College men's lacrosse team to a 19-2 win over Muskingum (Ohio) University on a cold and snowy afternoon inside the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. In addition, senior Dakota Badder and junior Nino Minaudo each scored nine points.
The nine points scored for both players ties for the fourth-most points in a single-game in school history. Badder had three goals and tied for the second-most assists in a single-game in school history with six assists for his nine points. Minaudo had four goals and five assists for his nine points.
The Comets led 12-0 at halftime, scoring eight goals in the first quarter and four more in the second quarter. In the opening quarter, Badder, Minaudo, junior Logan Krieger and senior Jack Ranson each scored twice. Scoring goals in the second period were freshman Bryce Drew and Ranson with one apiece and Minaudo with two.
Badder completed his hat trick with goal just under two minutes into the third quarter to make the score 13-0. Senior Nate Roberts netted his first goal of the game at the 8:59 mark. Tucker Haas then scored the two Muskie goals in an 86-second span to cut their deficit down to 14-2. Drew added another goal off a feed from junior Charlie Haesler to give Olivet a 15-2 lead at the end of three periods of play.
The Comets out-scored Muskingum 4-0 in the fourth quarter. Minaudo scored the first goal before Roberts found the back of the cage for another goal with 7:07 left. Freshman Zach Sanders scored the final two goals of the game.
Badder also had a game-high 12 shots, while Minaudo finished with 11 shots. Teare scooped-up a game-high 11 ground balls. Senior Ryan McGee played the first half in goal to earn the win, making a save on each of three shots he faced. Junior Drew Radners played the second half in goal.
With the win, Olivet closed out the non-conference portion of its 2016 schedule with a 2-6 record. The Comets will now open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play next Saturday, April 9, with a 1 p.m. game at Calvin College.
NOTES: Olivet's 35 total points and 16 assists are the third-most in school history for a single-game. The 19 goals are the most for the Comets in a game since they had 21 vs. Calvin on April 26, 2014.
