Men’s lacrosse opens MIAA play with 11-6 loss to Trine
The Olivet College men’s lacrosse team opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with an 11-6 loss to Trine (Ind.) University this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's lacrosse team opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with an 11-6 loss to Trine (Ind.) University this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
Trine scored the first goal before freshman Jack Ranson (Nobleton, Ontario/St. Michael's) tied the game just more than one minute later. The Thunder responded with three straight goals to take a 4-1 lead after one quarter. Both teams scored twice in the second quarter to give Trine a 6-3 lead at halftime.
The Thunder went up 7-3 on a goal with 4:43 left in the third quarter. Olivet answered with three straight goals – two at the end of the third stanza and one at the start of the fourth stanza – to trail by only one, 7-6, with 14:04 left in the game. Trine netted the final four goals of the game to pull away for the win.
Ranson and freshman Cameron Bazin (Troy/Athens) each scored two goals for the Comets, while freshman Matt Arb (Troy/Athens) and junior Kyle Borek (Lansing/Holt) had one apiece. Arb and freshman Dakota Badder (Troy/Athens) each recorded one assist. Ranson topped the team with 10 shots, while Bazin had a team-leading nine groundballs. Sophomore keeper Ryan McGee (Traverse City/Central) collected 19 saves.
The Comets continue MIAA play Saturday when Albion College visits the Cutler Athletic Complex for a 1 p.m. game.
