The Olivet College men’s lacrosse team fell to University of Mount Union (Ohio), 15-7, this afternoon at Purple Raider Stadium in Alliance, Ohio.
ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Olivet College men's lacrosse team fell to University of Mount Union (Ohio), 15-7, this afternoon at Purple Raider Stadium in Alliance, Ohio.
The game was tied at 2-2 after the first period behind goals for the Comets by freshmen James Collins (Lowell) and Dakota Badder (Troy/Athens). The teams traded goals to start the second quarter until Badder scored twice in a span of 30 seconds for Olivet's first lead of the game, 5-4, with 6:19 left before halftime.
Mount Union scored the final two goals of the half to take a 6-5 lead at the break. The Purple Raiders extended their lead to 8-5 with the first two goals of the third period. Badder scored to trim the Comets' deficit to two goals, 8-6. Mount Union then scored five unanswered goals spanning the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach, 13-6.
On the attack, Badder tied for game-high honors with four goals on 10 shots. Freshman Cameron Bazin (Troy/Athens) finished with team-highs in shots (13), shots-on-goal (eight) and groundballs (11), but only had one goal and one assist. As a team, Olivet had 41 shots. Freshman Jordan Stover (Clarkston) won 11-of-16 face-offs. Sophomore Ryan McGee (Traverse City/Central) played the whole game in net and made 16 saves on 59 Purple Raider shots.
The Comets will host Trine (Ind.) University for their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opener next Tuesday, April 2. Game time at the Cutler Athletic Complex is 4 p.m.
